Q: What is a monotype?
A: A monotype is traditional form of printmaking where etching ink is applied to plexiglass. By utilizing the reductive technique details are (added) subtracted from the initial shapes to form the image. The image is then transfered to one sheet of paper through a press. The original ink image is then erased off the plate and the cycle starts anew.
Q: These are prints right?
A: Yes, technically. But there is only one that is created through the monotype process. So more like a painting than a print, however, I still using tradional printmaking techniques to create the work. Simply stated- they are not reproducible. All originals all the time. True 1 of 1's.
Q: Sounds cool dude, but will you ever make these as cheaper editions?
A: Potentially.. still trying to figure that part out. If so it would be a digital reproduction.
Q: Are the pieces signed and dated?
A: Yes, all pieces are signed in the following way.
Monotype, Title of the Piece, My Name and date.
This shows up at the bottom of pieces. If the piece is a full bleed the same information will be found on the back of the piece.
Q: How should I frame my piece?
A: All works on paper should have a spacer between the glass and the artwork. Keep this precious creep out of direct sunlight (honestly, that goes for any artwork). Other than those two things, it's really up to your personal aesthetic. In my opinion, my work looks great floating in a black background in a white frame.
Q: Can I order a specific size piece from you?
A: Yes and No. I'm limited by the size of my press. Let's talk. Hit me up through the contact form. Or send me a Direct Message on Instagram.
**SHIPPING**
It's super lame it costs so much to send things, I know. Orders in the states and internationally have a base price listed. This includes the cost of shipping materials that I find to be "safe"- actual cost is slightly under or a bit over what is estimated. Pieces are shipped through USPS with tracking. Thanks for your understanding.
